Perfect buns
2015-09-08- Yield : 18 buns
Ingredients
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup + 1/2 tsp sugar (separate)
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
- 4 cups bread flour (Plain flour) , or more if needed
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 2 tsp dry yeast
- 1/3 cup melted butter
Method
Step 1
Mix the milk, melted butter, beaten egg together, and keep aside.
Step 2
In a stand mixer, place the lukewarm water, yeast and 1/2 tsp of sugar. Allow to rest for a few minutes, until the yeast begins to grow.
Step 3
Add the first mixture (milk, egg and butter) to yeast mixture.
Step 4
Add the flour, 1/3 cup of sugar and salt, and turn on machine. Mix by hand if you aren’t using a machine.
Step 5
Dough will be slightly sticky. When the dough is ready, cover it and let rise on the counter or inside a warm oven until doubled in size
Step 6
After it’s risen, punch down the dough, and let rest for 5 minutes. Cut into small pieces and shape into round balls (I made 15 balls, but you can make 18), and place onto a greased cookie sheet. Next brush them with milk.
Step 7
Then place the tray in the oven (do not turn it on) to rise for about half an hour or until doubled in size (I covered mine with a wet towel so the buns don’t get a hard crust).
Step 8
Once doubled, remove the buns from the oven. Preheat the oven to 175ºC then bake the buns for approximately 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
Step 9
Once they are done, take them out of the oven and brush them with some milted butter.
